Laboratory
The Mowery Clinic Laboratory is a well-equipped and staffed facility, designed to provide the physicians with the most precise and up-to-date laboratory data available. The laboratory has a certification from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and is routinely inspected by the State every two years. The lab is certified to provide services under the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and is subject to stringent internal and external quality control programs. The laboratory subscribes to proficiency testing programs.
The lab performs over 250,000 tests per year. The lab has the following departments: Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Serology, Urinalysis and Microbiology. The majority of the testing is performed on-site and is reported to the physician’s office the same day. The lab is linked with instrumentation and offices via computer. Barcodes are used for positive patient identification. Some esoteric testing is sent out daily at 5 pm and 75% of the reports are received via computer the next day.
There are three drawing stations at Mowery Clinic for patient convenience.
Radiology
The X-ray Department is likewise well-equipped and staffed for producing high-quality radiographic studies. The Department is located in the main building, central portion, easily accessible from various offices.
Radiologists are on site most of the day to interpret the exams. This enables us to provide outstanding patient care in a timely and convenient manner.
Digital Mamography
Digital Mammography has been proven to find cancer more accurately in younger women. We offer a softer, warmer mammogram. A MammoPad is a cushion which results in a more comfortable mammogram for most women, without affecting image quality. Fear of mammographic discomfort is known to deter some women from getting a regular mammogram.
At this facility we believe you mammogram deserves a second look. A R2 Image Checker CAD is a software application that identifies and marks regions of interest on images that may warrant a second review by the Radiologist.
The main benefit of Digital Mammography is the ability that the radiologist has to view and manipulate the image for close ups of specific areas of interest.
In order to prepare for you mammogram, please have your previous mammograms and reports fowarded to us if you had them done at a different facility. Also do not wear deoderant, powder or cream under your arms as it may interfere with the quality of your mammogram.
The use of Digital Mammography has greatly enhanced the ability to detect cancers at earlier stages. This new technology shows great promise in the fight against breast cancer.
Diagnostic X-Rays
Diagnostic X-ray is an examination using eleftromagnetic energy beams to produce images onto film or computer. X-rays are performed for various reasons such as diagnosing bone injuries or tumors.
Ultrasounds
Ultrasound exams are done at the Main Mowery Clinic building. An ultrasound exam utilizes sound waves to obtain images. Gel is used on the skin surface and a transducer is moved across the area of interes. We also have the ability to do 3D/4D Ultrasounds to receive better images from the exam.
DEXA Scans
A DEXA Scan is used to diagnose osteoporosis. It is estimated that 60% of women age 55 and older have osteoporosis. This scan uses two x-ray beams to measure bone mineral density (BMD).
To help you prepare for this exam do not take a calcium supplement for 24 hours prior, and wear clothing without zippers or metal. This scan cannot be performed with in 7 days of having a barium study.
Cardiovascular Lab
Our comprehensive lab is available in the basement of Mowery West building. Cardiac testing includes treadmills, stress echoes, routine echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, EKGs, 24hr and 30 day monitors.
The ICAVL accredited Vascular lab performs upper and lover extremity venous and arterial exams, Carotid dopplers, and VNUS Closure procedures for venous reflux.
Utilizing this information, your physician can evaluate the heart, neck arteries, as well as leg and arm arteries and veins.
Nuclear Medicine Department
Our Nuclear Medicine Department is located in the Mowery West building. The department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the staff is licensed by the state of Kansas.
Nuclear Medicine studies are preformed throughout the week for the convenience of our patients and our physicians. Many types of scans are preformed including but not limited to heart (MPI and MUGS), lungs, bone, stomach, and gallbladder.
When your physicians’s office schedules you for a Nuclear Medicine Scan you will be given any special instruction at that time.
